Israel’s military offensive in Gaza has gone too far and risks bringing others into the conflict, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said. “The humanitarian and military crimes of the Zionist entity have crossed the red lines, which can force everyone to take action,” Raisi wrote on X. “Washington is asking us not to do anything, but they continue to give extensive support to Israel,” he wrote.
Iran’s political and military leadership has repeatedly issued warnings against Israel and the United States since the Palestinian Hamas movement attacked Israel on October 7, killing over 1400 people. Hamas is funded by Iran and is part of what it calls the “axis of resistance”, which also includes the militant Hezbollah movement in Lebanon. Hezbollah has been firing rockets daily over Israel’s northern border since October 7, prompting the Israeli military to retaliate. Hamas, too, continues to launch rockets at Israel from the Gaza Strip. /ritzau/AFP/
