ISIS has claimed that it carried out an attack in Iran that killed about 100 people on Wednesday, the militant movement wrote on the messaging service Telegram, according to Reuters. ISIS is a radical militant Sunni group while Iran is predominantly Shi’a Muslim. Wednesday’s explosions occurred at a memorial service on the anniversary of the death of senior General Qassem Soleimani. Soleimani was killed in a U.S. drone strike on January 3, 2020. Soleimani grew up in the Kerman region, where the memorial service took place. As a young man, he moved to the provincial capital of the same name. Earlier, a senior Iranian commander Esmail Qaani accused the United States and Israel of being behind the blasts. The United States has rejected the allegation. White House National Security Adviser John Kirby said there was no indication that Israel had been involved. /ritzau/
