Anger has spread in Iran after a woman was lashed for not wearing a headscarf, according to human rights activists DPA has reported. The Iranian court had sentenced Kurdish activist Roya Heshmati to 74 lashes. In a post on Facebook she described the execution of the sentence. The Iranian court has confirmed the lashing. The website Mizan, which is the official communication channel for the courts in the country said the punishment was carried out in accordance with the law. On social media, the lashes have been met with great anger. Roya Heshmati has described the place where the lashes were carried out as a “medieval torture chamber”. /ritzau/
