Iraq
The United States on Tuesday carried out targeted attacks on two facilities in Iraq, the US military said in a statement, according to Reuters. “The strikes were in direct response to the attacks against US and Coalition forces by Iran and Iran-backed groups,” the statement said. According to a US military official, the attacks destroyed a control centre belonging to the Kataib Hezbollah militia, as well as a command and control unit also belonging to Kataib Hezbollah. The militia said at least eight people were killed in the US strike. The armed group promises revenge. Kataib Hezbollah in Iraq is a powerful armed group supported by Iran. About 24 hours earlier, U.S. forces were attacked at an air base west of Iraq’s capital, Baghdad. /ritzau/
