African leaders are calling for new global taxes to fund solutions to climate change, according to the Nairobi Declaration, which is the final document of the three-day African Climate Summit in Kenya. The declaration will form the basis for Africa’s negotiating position for the COP28 climate summit, which will take place in November. The climate summit in Kenya was dominated by discussions on how to finance adaptation to increasingly extreme weather, the conservation of natural resources and the development of renewable energy. The African continent is suffering from some of the worst consequences of climate change. /ritzau/Reuters/
