A policeman has been killed in an attack in northern Kosovo, where the situation is said to be tense. About 30 gunmen are surrounded in the area, according to the prime minister. Prime Minister Albin Kurti reports fighting between police and armed men. “There is an attack going on against the police,” Kurti told a news conference. He said about 30 armed men were surrounded by police in the north of Kosovo – near the border with Serbia.
“There are at least 30 people, among them military personnel, who are surrounded by our police forces. I have called on them to surrender,” he added. Earlier on Sunday, one policeman was killed and another wounded in an armed attack on a police patrol in the same area. The attack happened when a police patrol approached a blocked road. The attackers used firearms, hand grenades and missiles against the police. /ritzau/AFP/
