It’s time to listen to Greenlandic women: In the 1960s, Danish politicians saw the increasing number of Greenlandic births as a problem. The Danish state also saw a solution: the IUD – which actually worked as intended and reduced the number of births. But in the midst of it all, respect for the individual and the girls and women who became tools in family planning efforts was forgotten. Today, the case stands as an example of how, with a certain goal in sight, one can risk becoming speed blind and forgetting about the individual.
