Hamas decides how bloody the situationwill be after the ceasefire: In the international concern for the people of Gaza, it has become an almost absent thought that Hamas could actually choose to release all the hostages here and now, lay down its weapons and capitulate to Israel — thereby immediately making peace possible. A peace that would end the war that Hamas itself began. A humanly extremely well-founded ceasefire should not obscure the fact that Hamas must go.
