Lund Poulsen seeks Liberal chairmanship
The entire Liberal parliamentary group supports Troels Lund Poulsen as a new chairman, and Stephanie Lose remaining as deputy chairman, of the Liberal party. Parliamentary Group Chairman Lars Christian Lilleholt announced the group’s decision following a group meeting Wednesday. “These are the two best candidates. These are two enormously talented politicians, and I am very pleased that Stephanie is coming back – also as a minister – and helping to take on this task.”
Troels Lund Poulsen and Stephanie Lose confirmed on Wednesday that they will be seeking election as chairman and deputy chairman of the party at the national meeting on 18-19 November. Lose is already deputy chairman and if she is elected again, the plan is for her to take up her position as a minister in the government.
Lars Christian Lilleholt hopes that Troels Lund Poulsen can pull the Liberals out of the crisis: “Yes, but it is not a task that only Troels and Stephanie are facing. This is a task for the entire Liberal Party. This is a joint task before us. Both in the parliamentary group, among our elected representatives and out in our organisation,” says the group chairman. A new chairman has to be elected after Jakob Ellemann-Jensen has decided to leave government, Parliament and Danish politics. Troels Lund Poulsen is already Minister of Defence and has taken over Ellemann’s duties as Minister of Economic Affairs on an interim basis. “Now there must be calm regarding the Liberal Party, which must be a party for the ordinary Dane,” Lund Poulsen wrote on Facebook. “The Liberal Party is at the foot of a mountain. Now is the time for all of us to step up,” he writes. There is still the possibility that there will be counter-candidates for Lund and Lose in November. But several major Liberal profiles have already pointed to the two in a partnership. /ritzau/
