Many flag and scripture burning applications

In a month and a half, 253 demonstrations with books and flag burnings have been applied for in Denmark, according to the Ministry of Justice, which has received the latest report, that runs from mid-July to early September, from the National Police. “At the same time, the Danish Police Intelligence Service (PET) has stated that the recent Koran burnings have had an impact on the current threat picture, and that the terrorist threat to Denmark has intensified within the already high level,” Justice Minister Peter Hummelgaard said in a written comment.
      “These facts clearly underline the seriousness of the situation, and the government is addressing this situation responsibly by tabling a bill. For the government, it is only about the safety and security of Danes,” the minister said. Earlier in August, the government came forward with a concrete proposal for a legal intervention against scripture burnings. The proposal has drawn criticism for beginning a slippery slope towards more encroachments on free speech. /ritzau/
