Mogensen finally at the International Space Station
The space capsule with Andreas Mogensen on board connected to the International Space Station (ISS) at 15:29 Danish time Sunday, according to Nasa’s live broadcast. The Dane and his three astronaut colleagues are now to embark on a six-month stay at the station.
The four had been patiently waiting to leave after the trip was postponed several times. No later than Friday, when they should have been sent off at 09.49 Danish time, they were delayed due to suspicions of problems with the valves that open and close the supply of fuel and oxygen. On Saturday at 09.27 Danish time, they succeeded when the spacecraft was launched from Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
The 46-year-old Andreas Mogensen’s colleagues include an American, a Japanese and a Russian. The 40-year-old American Jasmin Moghbeli has been the Dane’s right-hand man on the journey. She has a past in the United States Marine Corps. Satoshi Furukawa, the 59-year-old Japanese, was selected as an astronaut in 1999. He has a doctorate in medicine. And finally, there’s the youngest of the four, 39-year-old Konstantin Borisov from Russia. Among other things, he was responsible for overseeing the first stages of the flight towards the ISS. /ritzau/
