Monarch proclamation on January 14 at 15.00 hrs

In her New Year’s speech, Queen Margrethe announced that she is stepping down as Denmark’s monarch and Head of State after 52 years in office. Crown Prince Frederik will be proclaimed King Frederik X on January 14 at 15.00 hrs from the balcony of Christiansborg Palace, the Royal Family has announced. On the same day, a Council of State will be held at 14.00 hrs at Christiansborg Palace, at which H.M Queen Margrethe II will sign the instrument of abdication at which time Crown Prince Frederik will be automatically elevated to King Frederik X of Denmark. At the same time, Crown Princess Mary will be elevated to Queen Mary of Denmark. After the meeting of the Council of State, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen will proclaim the succession to the throne at Christiansborg Palace, the Prime Minister’s Office has previously announced. /ritzau/
