New mobile alert was heard by two out of three Danes
Two out of three Danes received a test warning on their mobile phones when the authorities tested a new mobile alert system on Wednesday 3 May, the Danish Emergency Management Agency (DEMA) wrote on its website based on a Megafon survey. Here, 64 percent of respondents answer that they received the warning on the phone. 33 percent say they did not receive the warning.
As a result of the survey, DEMA is to investigate why the test warning did not reach a wider audience. “The DEMA initially assesses that a widespread reason is that the phones’ operating system was not updated. Another reason is that older mobile phones do not receive the warnings,” DEMA wrote. Among the other supposed reasons is that the phones may have been connected to the 3G network. The mobile alert is not compatible with 3G and only appears on phones connected to 4G and 5G networks. The new system called
