New Zealand – new government

New Zealand’s right-wing National Party signed a deal on Friday local time, forming a new coalition government. This comes more than 40 days after elections were held in the country. Christopher Luxon of the National Party will become Prime Minister, and the role of Deputy Prime Minister will be shared between the chairman of the populist New Zealand Party, Winston Peters, and the leader of ACT New Zealand, David Seymour. Peters will be deputy prime minister for the first year and a half of his term and Seymour will take the last year and a half. “Despite the challenging economic environment, New Zealanders can look forward to a better future because of the changes the government will make,” incoming Prime Minister Christopher Luxon said in a statement. /ritzau/Reuters/
