Nordic waste ordered to present financial security
Before 4 p.m. on Thursday, the soil cleaning company Nordic Waste was required to send documentation that it can provide significant financial security according to an order from the Danish Environmental Protection Agency to which Ekstra Bladet (EB) has been granted access. A financial security of the amount of DKK 205 million to cover the costs incurred by Randers Municipality, which has worked to avert the environmental consequences of a landslide on the company’s site.
Among other things, the agency writes in the order that Nordic Waste, as responsible for the “imminent danger of environmental damage”, must “provide security to the Environmental Protection Agency of DKK 205 million to fulfil its obligations to take preventive measures,” EB writes. The agency requires the company Nordic Waste, which works to clean contaminated soil, to present a bank guarantee, deposit the amount into an account or show that an insurance company can pay the amount. The documentation for this must be sent to the agency before 4 p.m. on Thursday. If Nordic Waste does not comply with the order, the agency will initiate legal action against the soil cleaning company. In addition to the funding, the order also states that the agency has ordered Nordic Waste to resume work to stop the potential environmental disaster, writes Ekstra Bladet. (ritzau)
