Norway’s Foreign Minister, Anniken Huitfeldt, has ended up in trouble because of her husband and with severe impartiality problems. On Wednesday, the newspaper VG revealed that her husband had bought shares in the Norwegian arms manufacturer Kongsberg Gruppen and other sensitive companies while she was foreign minister. These are companies that are strongly influenced by what is decided by the government in Oslo and Parliament. The Green Party is calling for Huitfeldt’s resignation, but Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre says he still has confidence in his foreign minister. Huitfeldt admits to the newspaper that she has not fulfilled her duty as foreign minister. “Based on an assessment by the law department, there is reason to believe that I have been disqualified in several cases,” she told a news conference Wednesday afternoon. /ritzau/
