Norway – Covid
The number of coronavirus deaths in Norway has more than doubled in the space of a week, according to the National Institute of Public Health (FHI). Last week, 76 people infected with coronavirus died. This is a doubling compared to the previous week, when 36 Covid-related deaths were recorded. “The frequency of hospitalizations and deaths is highest among people aged 75 and over, and higher among people who did not receive the Covid vaccine in the autumn. The figures are expected to be revised somewhat upwards for the last few weeks, FHI wrote in a weekly report released Thursday.
The variant that has been dominant in Norway for some months is called EG. 5.1. This is what is helping to send the number of infected people soaring now, writes FHI. Also another variant named BA. 2.86 is increasing significantly right now and is particularly evident in wastewater monitoring, writes FHI. /ritzau/
