The hosting of the 2030 and 2034 World Cups is all but in place, but the process is being criticized by Norwegian football president Lise Klaveness. In early October, the International Football Federation (FIFA) announced that the 2030 World Cup will primarily be held in Spain, Portugal and Morocco, with Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay each hosting a single match. Saudi Arabia is the only suitor for the tournament four years later after the deadline on Tuesday. “Now that the deadline to sign up as an organiser of the World Cup has expired, we are again faced with many questions about the process that has led us here. There doesn’t seem to have been any real competition to organise the World Cup in 2030 and 2034, and it seems like the FIFA president [Ed: Gianni Infantino] has been very active in making sure that this was the result,” the head of the Norwegian Football Association told news agency NTB. It is not yet known how Infantino and FIFA relate to the Norwegian’s statements. Following the announcement of the 2030 World Cup on three different continents, FIFA also set October 31 as the deadline for bids for the 2034 World Cup. This gave potential suitors less than a month to bid. /ritzau/NTB/
