NSK helps FBI to crack ALPHV/Blackcat
The National Unit for Special Crime (NSK) and the Copenhagen Police have contributed to a major international investigation of cybercrime with the US Federal Police, FBI. In an operation last Friday, the FBI breached parts of the infrastructure of the criminal cyber network ALPHV/Blackcat, which originates in Russia. “It is the investigation that has led to the action, to which the Danish police have contributed,” according to Henriette Erbs, Head of Department at the National Cyber Crime Centre (NC3) in NSK. “The FBI has taken action to destroy the criminal infrastructure it uses to sell and execute cyberattacks,” she said. ALPHV/Blackcat is a ransomware group that operates internationally.
According to NSK, the group ALPHV/Blackcat has recently attacked more than 1,000 victims internationally. During the action on Tuesday, about 500 victims have regained access to their websites. Authorities and companies in the United States are among the main victims. The network is known in Denmark. The police are investigating individual cases where Danish companies have been attacked, says Henriette Erbs. “In an investigation of a single case, there have been clues that have enabled us to contribute to the international investigation. /ritzau/
