Official Royal Family titles – Queen Margrethe retains title

Queen Margrethe retains her title as Queen after January 14, when she steps down as Denmark’s monarch, the Royal Family announced in a press release on Tuesday. The announcement means that Denmark will have two queens: Queen Margrethe and Queen Mary. The same was true for Queen Margrethe’s mother, Queen Ingrid, who after King Frederik’s death continued to bear the title of Queen.
In an earlier press release on Tuesday, the Royal Family also announced that a new Royal Court – “Her Majesty Queen Margrethe’s Court” will be established.
When Crown Prince Frederik ascends the Danish throne on Sunday 14 January, his title will be His Majesty King Frederik 10.
Crown Princess Mary will at the same time have the title: Her Majesty Queen Mary.
The Royal Couple will henceforth bear the title of King and Queen of Denmark.
Prince Christian will be the heir to the throne and will henceforth be referred to as His Royal Highness Crown Prince Christian. /ritzau/
