Opposition parties sceptical over climate plans

Five parties are now so sceptical about the government’s proposal to reach the 2025 climate target that they are threatening to leave the negotiations. If Climate Minister Lars Aagaard does not bring more climate measures to the table, the agreement will be without the Socialist People’s Party, the Red Greens, the Social Liberals, the Conservatives and the Alternatives. “Climate change is pouring in on us, yet there is still no climate agreement on the table that will bring Denmark safely to the climate goal in 2025, or that will bring CO2 emissions down far enough,” said Signe Munk, political spokesperson for the Socialist People’s Party. An agreement securing the achievement of the 2025 target has been many months in the making. In a month’s time, there will only be one year left before the target of at least a 50 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions must be reached. Recently, Liberal Party Climate Minister Lars Aagaard revised up his proposal with a higher diesel tax that the parties had requested. Yet the parties are not satisfied. /ritzau/
