Thousands of Afghans in Pakistan rushed to the border on Tuesday to get out of the country. The reason is that it is the last day before 1.7 million Afghans have been told to leave Pakistan. Otherwise, they risk being arrested and sent out by force. There are over four million Afghan migrants and refugees in Pakistan, according to Pakistan’s government. Of these, the Pakistani authorities estimate that about 1.7 million people do not have the necessary papers. Many came after the Taliban movement retook power in Afghanistan in 2021. However, a large number have remained there since the Soviet invasion in 1979. /ritzau/
