PM Frederiksen: EU must find more money for Ukraine

Support for Ukraine must be stepped up, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said on her way to the EU summit in Brussels on Thursday. “It is important for all of us that we allocate more money to Ukraine. There is no doubt about that. There is an urgent need on the battlefield, and there is also a need for a long-term perspective, where our F-16s are an important part. So I hope for intensified support,” says Frederiksen. She believes that it will be possible to reprioritise the existing EU budget in order to find money.
In the meantime, back home in Denmark the Ministry of Defence wrote in a a press release that Denmark is donating military equipment worth DKK 3.7 billion, including tanks, to Ukraine. The donation also includes infantry fighting vehicles, artillery ammunition, drones and small arms. The donation is intended to help Ukrainians in the war against Russia. The donation is financed by the Ukraine Foundation, which was established by a broad majority in the Danish Parliament in March. The government’s budget proposal for 2024 states that the Ukraine Fund has a total budget of DKK 34.4 billion for military support to Ukraine in the period 2023 to 2028. /ritzau/
