Four people have died in an accident at a coal mine in southern Poland, Poland’s state mining office has announced according to the Polish news agency PAP. The accident happened when a pipeline had to be filled with water. It ruptured and killed three people on the spot, PAP said. A fourth person died later. Several people were injured but were conscious, the mining office said. A rescue effort was still underway as of Tuesday evening, PAP writes. The Sobieski mine is one of Poland’s largest coal mines. It is located in the city of Jaworzno about 350 kilometers south of the capital, Warsaw. The mine is owned by the energy company Tauron. /ritzau/
