Polish farmers decided at the weekend to break off the blockades they had set up on the border with Ukraine at the town of Medyka after the government accepted an agreement on farmers’ terms, the local governor told the media interia.pl. Several border crossings between Poland and Ukraine have been blocked by truck drivers since November 6. The drivers are demanding that the EU reintroduces a system under which Ukrainian companies must obtain a special permit to operate within the EU’s borders. The drivers were then joined by Polish farmers, who demanded state subsidies for maize production and a lowering of a number of tax rates, which were to have been increased. /ritzau/
