Police get involved in school hacking
The police are now investigating a case of an extensive leak of sensitive personal information in Southern Jutland. On Monday, DR published a story that 7,500 students and 750 employees at five South Jutland educational institutions have had information such as CPR identity numbers and secret addresses leaked after a hacker attack. The hacker attack was discovered on August 31, but it was not until Monday – after DR’s story – that the police became aware of the case. “The police are now initiating a dialogue with the educational institutions and their IT operations community with a view to having the incidents reported so that the police can initiate an investigation,” according to a press release from the South and South Jutland Police.
Data has been leaked from students and staff at EUC Syd, Sønderborg State School, Gråsten Agricultural School, Private School Als and Sønderborg International School. Some of the students whose information has been leaked are minors. “It can be data where there is a social security number, it can be data with addresses and phone numbers, and it can be notes from internal conversations,” says Birgitte Kastrup Hansen, deputy director at EUC Syd, to DR. The sensitive personal information has been leaked onto the dark web, which is a part of the internet that can only be accessed through special browsers. /ritzau/
