Police: regarding Copenhagen traffic for the rest of the week

The Copenhagen Police is advising people to come in good time and come on foot or in public transport if they wish to attend the succession to the throne in Copenhagen on Sunday. “We cannot predict how many people we will be in Copenhagen on Sunday, but we expect that very, very many people will be in the city to participate in the celebration. Therefore, we also hope that everyone will be in the festive mood that the occasion invites and take each other into account so that we can all be here,” says Peter Dahl, head of Copenhagen Police Emergency Services in a press release.
If, for example, Christiansborg Palace Square is filled, it may be necessary to close further access, the police write. There will also be a ban on stopping and parking along the route that the royal family must follow in the carriage between Amalienborg Palace and Christiansborg. According to the police, many people are expected both along the route back and forth between Amalienborg Palace and Christiansborg, but also around Christiansborg Palace Square.
Already as of Tuesday, traffic around Kongens Nytorv is affected due to DR and TV 2 holding a tribute show for the departing Queen on Friday evening. From Tuesday, northbound car traffic will be closed around Holmens Kanal from Holbergsgade to Nyhavn. This is the part of Kongens Nytorv that runs past the Royal Danish Theatre. It will still be possible to travel by bicycle and on foot, even if cars are blocked. The police note that the inner city of Copenhagen will be impassable by car during the weekend and especially on Sunday. /ritzau/
