Political chaos in the United States: Republicans are turning the United States into a power without leadership. The crisis in American democracy has many causes, but at the heart of it is Donald Trump. As long as Trump and his extreme populism and cynicism keep Republicans in a death grip, the party is unlikely to move forward. The crisis in Congress therefore underscores how crucial the elections next year will be for both the United States and its friends and allies. A defeat for Trump could be a new beginning for both the United States and the Republicans.
