PostNord ups costs, removes mailboxes
From January 1st , it will cost a minimum of DKK 25 to send a letter in Denmark, PostNord has announced in a press release after a majority in the Danish Parliament passed a new postal law on Thursday. Earlier this year, the government, the Liberal Alliance, the Conservatives, the Social Liberals, the Alternative and the NB party entered into an agreement on the future layout of the postal sector. The agreement means, among other things, that the universal service obligation, which requires the State to ensure delivery of letters and parcels throughout the country, will end. Today, the universal service is provided by PostNord’s Danish branch.
With the adoption of the Act, PostNord is now “adapting” its mail business from the end of this year, when the Act comes into force. This means, among other things, that it will cost DKK 25 to send a letter weighing 0-100 grams in Denmark. Today, according to PostNord’s website, it costs DKK 12 to send a letter weighing 0-50 grams and DKK 24 for a letter weighing no more than 100 grams. PostNord is also announcing that more than 1,000 mailboxes will be removed across the country as a consequence of the new postal law. /ritzau/
