Reviewers pay tribute to Mikkelsen in historical drama
It is raining stars over the new Danish film “The Bastard”, in which star actor Mads Mikkelsen in the lead role. At both Jyllands-Posten and Soundvenue, the reviewer gives the film five out of six stars, while in Politiken it is acknowledged with five out of six hearts. They all give Mads Mikkelsen praise along the way. “In “The Bastard” he delivers a striving, cranky, unpleasant hero related to the best faces from the modern western genre, Clint Eastwood and Tommy Lee Jones,” writes Kristoffer Hegnsvad from Politiken. In “The Bastard”, Mads Mikkelsen can be seen in the role of Captain Ludvig Kahlen, who will try to cultivate the Jutland heath in the 1700s. However, he makes an enemy in the landowner Frederik de Schinkel, who tries to force Kahlen away. The film is based on the book “The Captain and Ann Barbara” by author Ida Jessen and premiers today. “The Bastard” is directed by Nikolaj Arcel and has been chosen by the Danish Oscar committee as the Danish bid for an Oscar nomination in the category Best International Film. /ritzau/
