Russia/Ukraine

About 300 citizens have been evacuated from the Russian city of Belgorod near the border with Ukraine as a result of Ukrainian attacks. In addition, during the course of a day – from Sunday to Monday – the Russian authorities have received 1,300 inquiries from citizens who want children in Belgorod evacuated to other parts of Russia. “In the last 24 hours, we have received 1,300 requests to send the children in Belgorod to school camps in other regions,” said Vyacheslav Gladkov, governor of the Belgorod region. Belgorod has been targeted several times by Ukrainian air strikes. The announcement of the evacuations in Belgorod comes after Russia attacked several cities in Ukraine on Monday. A total of four people are said to have been killed. /ritzau/AFP/
