Sierra Leone

On 26th of November last year, gunmen attacked a cache of weapons, two military barracks, two prisons and two police stations in the West African country of Sierra Leone, an event that former president Ernest Bai Koroma has been charged with being involved in. The authorities in Sierra Leone have charged Ernest Bai Koroma with high treason, Reuters writes. The charges were read aloud Wednesday during a hearing in a court in Sierra Leone’s capital, Freetown. Both Koroma himself and several of his political supporters were present. According to Reuters, several members of the audience began to cry as the indictment was read aloud. During the alleged military coup in November, some 2,200 prisoners were released and more than 20 people were killed. /ritzau/
