Sierre Leone – curfew

The government of the West African country imposed a nationwide curfew on Sunday. It comes as fighting was reported in Sierra Leone’s capital, Freetown, following what the government described as an attack on a military weapons cache. Witnesses report gunshots and explosions in the area of Wilberforce, where the weapons warehouse is located. Several embassies are also located there. Other witnesses report an exchange of gunfire near barracks in Murray Town. Here the military has several strongholds, including one for the navy. Videos on social media show groups of men on the streets described as prisoners who have escaped. The reports have not been independently confirmed. /ritzau/AFP/
