Slovakia’s newly installed prime minister, Robert Fico, said on Thursday that his government was halting military aid to Ukraine. The decision was one that he already announced during the election campaign. Fico told Parliament that his country “will no longer supply Ukraine with weapons”. But EU member Slovakia, a member of NATO, will still deliver humanitarian aid to its war-torn neighbour. The decision to drop military aid will annoy large parts of the Western alliance and break the unity that both NATO and the EU have tried to maintain towards Ukraine. On Wednesday, three weeks after the election, Fico was sworn in as prime minister for the fourth time. /ritzau/AFP/
