Thousands of people demonstrated Sunday in Spain’s capital, Madrid, against plans to grant Catalan separatists amnesty. “Spain is not for sale,” one sign read. Spain’s acting Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, and his Socialist Party need the support of two Catalan separatist parties in order to form a government after the July elections. In return, the two parties are demanding amnesty for hundreds of people accused of playing minor roles in a referendum on Catalan independence in 2017. There is particular anger that an amnesty could end up including Carles Puigdemont, leader of one of the two Catalan parties, JxCat. /ritzau/AFP
