State auditors to investigate cancer treatments
The National Audit Office will conduct a major investigation of the cancer area after numerous reports of excessive waiting times, according to Berlingske referring to a briefing sent to regional council politicians in the Capital Region of Denmark. Specifically, the National Audit Office will look at whether there are grounds for directing criticism at the regions and the Ministry of Health, and determine whether they have managed patients’ rights correctly. The National Audit Office will investigate whether the regions have complied with the politically determined time limits that give cancer patients the right to rapid examination and treatment. This means that patients should be offered examination within 14 days if they are suspected of having cancer. If this is found to be the case, they must undergo surgery within 14 days thereafter. /ritzau/
