Storm caused major damage

Homeowners across large parts of Denmark have spent the past few days getting an overview of the damage that the storm surge between Friday and Saturday has inflicted on their homes. So far, 1,915 reports have been received at the Nature Damage Base from people seeking compensation from the storm surge scheme, according to the Danish Competition and Consumer Authority, which acts as secretariat for the Danish Nature Damage Council. It goes on to say that the reviews are coming in a steady stream.
Since Sunday, the number of reviews has more than tripled. It said that 556 notifications had been received. In bad cases, the compensation could run into several million kroner, chief consultant to the council Poul Jensen said on Sunday. “I have had the opportunity to delve into some of the reviews and the accompanying imagery, and in several cases it looks really bad. There are houses that have been pulled out into the sea or where there is half a meter of water inside the living rooms. This can mean that the house is completely damaged, and there the compensation can run into several million kroner,” he said. /ritzau/
