On Tuesday, 39 civilians were killed in an attack in the Darfur region of Sudan. Most of those killed are women and children. Eyewitnesses and medical services said the attack took place in Nyala, a city in Darfur. According to the United Nations, 50,000 people have fled Nyala since August 11. In all of Sudan, a total of almost five million have fled the country due to the military conflict between the government army and rebels. General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the army chief, has been in open war with rebels led by his former second-in-command Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, since April 15. /ritzau/AFP/
