The TT-Line ferry Marco Polo, with 71 people on board, ran aground on Sunday morning in Pukavik Bay (Pukaviksbukten) off southern Sweden and is leaking oil and diesel, according to the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet. During the morning, a leak of both diesel and oil from three tanks on the ferry was discovered. “Diesel and oil have penetrated the sea. There are three damaged tanks on board and we cannot monitor the amount of the leak. We have already circled the area,” Karin Cars, information officer at the Coastguard, told Aftonbladet. It is unclear how much oil and diesel has leaked. There is also no forecast for when the leak may be repaired. The ferry is currently stationary in Pukavik Bay outside Hörvik. During the morning, an evacuation of passengers began. The ferry was on its way from Trelleborg to Karlshamn when it ran aground at 06:25 on Sunday morning, TV4 reported. Of the 71 people on board, 29 were crew members. /ritzau/
