Sweden-Estonia cable damaged
An undersea telecommunications cable between Sweden and Estonia has been damaged, Sweden’s civil defence minister, Carl-Oskar Bohlin, announced on Tuesday. The damage is believed to have occurred around the same time that damage was discovered last week on the Balticconnector gas pipeline between Finland and Estonia. Then Finland’s president, Sauli Niinistö, said there were suspicions that outside forces had been at play. There is no information yet about the cause of the damage to the telecommunications cable, Bohlin added, according to SVT. “We can’t assess at this point what caused the damage,” Bohlin said. “It’s not a total cable break, but a partial damage.” /ritzau/
