Thousands in DK lose all their data in hacker attack

On Thursday-Friday night, the Danish hosting company AzeroCloud was hit by a ransomware attack. The hackers encrypted and blocked access to large parts of the data that the company houses for customers. These are websites, email systems, customer systems, customer websites and more. “A break-in that has completely paralysed CloudNordic and also hit our customers hard,” AzeroCloud writes on its website. “Unfortunately, it has proved impossible to recover more data, and the majority of our customers have thus lost all data with us.”
According to the company’s CEO, AzeroCloud houses around 3,700 websites.     For many of the affected customers, the attack could have the fatal consequence that years of work that was only stored in the cloud are now gone, according to DR. In an interview with DR, CEO Martin Haslund Johansson says that they are “furiously sorry” on behalf of their customers. “We have done everything to the best of our ability and we have certifications, so we had everything in place. So it’s super easy to say, but we can see that if you want to be sure not to be attacked by anything, you shouldn’t be online at all,” he says.
AzeroCloud has been in email contact with those who are probably behind the attack. They have asked for a million kroner, which the company does not have. The company has reported the attack to the police, who advise not to pay the hackers. /ritzau/
