Turkish authorities have arrested 33 people suspected of spying for the Israeli intelligence service Mossad, Turkey’s state-run Anadolu news agency reported on Tuesday. Another 13 people are wanted by police. According to Anadolu, searches were carried out at 57 locations across eight provinces simultaneously. The operation was part of an investigation launched by the anti-terrorism unit of Istanbul’s prosecutor’s office. Without citing its sources, Anadolu said the suspects were believed to have aimed to find, monitor, assault and abduct foreigners in Turkey. Relations between Turkey and Israel are currently extremely strained because of the war in Gaza. /ritzau/
