China is trying to recruit Britons to spy for Beijing, says the head of the British intelligence agency MI5. “Over 20,000 people in the UK have now been secretly contacted online by Chinese spies,” MI5 leader Ken McCallum told the BBC. The warning comes at a time when new British firms fear having ideas and business plans stolen. Ken McCallum made his remarks to the BBC at a very rare public appearance in California, along with other security chiefs from Britain, the United States, Australia, Canada and New Zealand. For the first time, they gathered to warn against China gaining access to trade secrets. /ritzau/
