U.S. – Jordan
Conservative Republican Jim Jordan was rejected as the new Speaker of the House of Representatives for the second day in a row on Wednesday night. The House of Representatives is in the process of finding a replacement for Kevin McCarthy, who had to step down as Speaker two weeks ago. Jim Jordan, 59, backed by former President Donald Trump, has been chosen as the Republican nominee. So far, however, he has not managed to secure the necessary support in the party. On Wednesday, he received 199 votes from party colleagues. As a result, he has lost the support of one more Republican compared to the vote on Tuesday, in which he received 200 votes. /ritzau/
