U.S. warplanes have carried out an attack on a facility linked to Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) in eastern Syria, according to U.S. Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin. Nine people linked to Iranian-backed groups in Syria have been killed in the attack, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said. It is the second time in about two weeks that the U.S. has targeted a location in Syria linked to Iran. Iran supports a number of groups that the U.S. accuses of a sharp increase in attacks on U.S. forces in the Middle East. The United States is trying to deter Iran and its allies from turning the Israeli-Hamas conflict into a regional war. /ritzau/
