UAE – COP28

The hosts of the upcoming COP28 climate summit, the United Arab Emirates, had planned to use meetings with foreign leaders at COP28 to conclude deals to sell oil and gas, according to documents obtained by the British broadcaster BBC. The documents were prepared by the Emirates’ COP28 team for summit chairman Sultan Ahmed al-Jaber. He was thus equipped to hold meetings with at least 27 representatives of foreign governments. Among the memos al-Jaber allegedly received, there were several points concerning the interests of the state oil company Adnoc in oil and gas. The documents have been leaked by a so-called whistleblower. A spokesman for COP28 told Reuters news agency that the documents were “inaccurate” and had not been used in meetings./ritzau/
