No international football matches will be played “until further notice” on Israeli soil, the European Football Federation (UEFA) has ruled in light of the recent escalation of the conflict in Israel and Gaza. “After a thorough evaluation of the current security situation on Israeli territory, UEFA’s six-seat committee has decided that no matches in UEFA’s competitions will be played in Israel until further notice,” Uefa said on its website. The decision initially applies to the Israeli national team, which is missing two home games in the European Championship qualifyers, and the clubs Maccabi Haifa and Maccabi Tel Aviv, who participate in European club competitions. Israel’s national team is scheduled to have home games against Switzerland and Romania on November 15 and 18, but will use a stadium in another country as long as UEFA’s decision is in place. /ritzau/
