  • Ukraine’s parliament has approved Rustem Umerov as Ukraine’s new defence minister, Ukrainian MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak said Wednesday on the Telegram communications service. At the same time, he published a picture showing that 338 out of 360 MPs voted to approve Umerov. Umerov, 41, who grew up in the Crimean peninsula, has been recommended as the new defence minister by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy. He takes over from Oleksiy Reznikov. /ritzau/
  • A Russian attack on a market in eastern Ukraine has killed at least 16 people – including a child. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy told AFP and Reuters. The president added that the death toll could rise further. The attack has hit eastern Ukraine in the city of Kostiantynivka, located about 100 kilometres north of Donetsk and over 500 kilometres east of the capital, Kiev. In addition to those killed, at least 20 people are said to have been wounded in the attack. /ritzau/
