The wife of Ukraine’s spy chief, Marianna Budanova, has been poisoned, Ukrainian Intelligence has confirmed, as reported by the Reuters news agency. Several Ukrainian media outlets reported on Budanova’s poisoning earlier on Tuesday, citing anonymous sources, stating that she has been poisoned with heavy metals. She was taken to hospital after feeling unwell for an extended period of time, as reported by Babel. “Yes, I can confirm the information. Unfortunately, this is true,” Andriy Yusov, an intelligence spokesperson, told Reuters. Later on Tuesday, Yusov announced that Ukraine suspected Russia was responsible for Kyrylo Budanov’s wife being rushed to hospital. “The investigation will show the rason, but that is our main thesis,” he told AFP. The Ukrainian news outlet Ukrainska Pravda reported that several Ukrainian intelligence officers had also been poisoned. U. Pravda cites unnamed sources as saying that Budanova had most likely been poisoned through food, but now felt better after completing the first course of treatment. /ritzau/
