A senior and highly decorated Russian general, Major General Vladimir Zavadsky, is reported to have died in the war in Ukraine on Monday, according to Russian media. Zavadsky, was second-in-command of the Russian 14th Army Corps. He and his forces have been on operational duty since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022. Zavadsky, 45, was reported to have died by the governor of the Russian Voronezh Province, Aleksander Gusev. He is said to have died “at his combat post in the Special Operations Zone”, Gusev said saying that Zavadsky’s death was a “grave loss.” Russian sources with contacts in the army reported Zavadsky died last week after stepping on a Russian landmine at the front. /ritzau/
